On June14th Patrick Ness won the Carnegie Medal for children’s literature for the second year running. It’s a historic event made uniquely record-breaking when his collaborating illustrator Jim Kay won the Greenaway Medal for the same book. ‘A Monster Calls’ was described by the Carnegie judges as “…one of the defining books of its generation”.

Patrick has written passionately about teenagers and the way in which they’re represented in Britain today. And his enthusiasm for ” …the country’s most interesting people” colours and informs his creative drive. He’ll be talking about creativity, demonisation, and making monsters in the Creative Keynote Interview in Cinema 4, with overspill relay to Cinema 3.
