Research: Getting To Grips With Young Children’s Learning
Thursday 5th July 2012, 11:10am - 12:40pm BST
Showroom Cinema 1
THE FOCUS: When it comes to interactive media, educational value sells. Parents want to be reassured that their child’s play will lead to learning.
Understanding more about learning and development helps designers and content producers know what’s suitable for the under fives. We will offer a light touch summary of some current theories and provide guidelines on what typically developing children can do. Based on our studies, we will discuss the home as a learning environment, the role of other family members in encouraging play and learning, the kinds of media activities that children enjoyed and what they gained from these.
For anybody who wants to get ahead of the game by creating engaging content that really helps children learn, the session offers a fresh look at how young children learn in the increasingly technological landscape of the home, how this translates into principles for design, and where to go for further information.
