4. The Kids’ Ecosystem, Under the Microscope

Kids’ ecosystems are becoming increasingly fragmented and complex. What do they look like now, and what are the implications?

The Kids’ ecosystem is becoming increasingly fragmented as it continues to grow at a phenomenal rate, as kids continue to have access to more content and experiences.

With children having access to so much content, driven no doubt by increased access to technology (75% of 4-6 year olds now own a tablet), children are able to focus and immerse themselves with their favourite content and experiences day after day, week after week.

The implications of this are that children can focus solely on their favourite interests meaning that their individual microsystem is becoming increasingly niche and specific to them. The result of this  is that some children’s points of view are becoming disconnected from the wider ecosystem.
