Fighting Fantasy – Making Games
Thursday 5th July 2012, 17:00 - 17:40
Showroom Cinema 4Read session report
Thirty years ago, the first ‘Fighting Fantasy’ role-play game book penned by two young games entrepreneurs, Ian Livingstone OBE and Steve Jackson, was published. The books regularly topped the Best Seller children’s books in the 1980s but more importantly transformed the experience of narrative for millions of children as they became the hero and the decision makers in the stories. The books inspired a new generation of fans to think about interactivity, experiences and story differently, and many of them are now in the business of entertaining the next generation through games, storytelling and interactive media.
To celebrate this landmark year, Ian Livingstone is releasing an all new ‘Fighting Fantasy’ mufti-format edition, ‘Blood of the Zombies’. Ian reflects on the current creative challenges and opportunities in interactive storytelling and play, shares a lifetime of experience in the interactive entertainment business, and warns of the serious challenges the next generation of creative technologists face.
