With a number of new STEM-inspired shows and initiatives in production or on air that aim to shift the needle and encourage more girls to choose engineering/STEM-based careers, this session invites some of the people involved to discuss the issue and find out more about their plans:

  • CBeebies will be launching ‘Bitz & Bob’ in early 2018, which follows the animated antics of inventor and creator eight-year-old Bitz and her younger brother Bob. The show is designed to fascinate and encourage pre-school viewers, particularly girls, to start exploring early engineering – helping them understand how things are made, how things work and the nature of the world around them.
  • In the new series of the ‘Power Puff Girls’, blue-eyed, pig-tailed sister Bubbles has kept up with the times by learning to code. Over the course of the first season of the reboot of the hugely popular animation we see that Bubbles is quite a proficient coder.
  • Siemens and Zinc Media will also offer interesting input about STEAM and media.
