Waterstones Children’s Laureate and number one best-selling author-illustrator of the ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ and ‘The Wizards of Once’ series, and author of the ‘Emily Brown’ picture books, Cressida Cowell will be joining us online on Wednesday 8th July for this year’s Creative Keynote.
Cressida has sold over 11 million books worldwide in 38 languages. ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ is also an award-winning billion-dollar DreamWorks film series and a TV series shown on Netflix and CBBC and ‘The Wizards of Once’ has been optioned by DreamWorks.
Cressida drew her first dragon aged 9. It is now a billion-dollar franchise. She has sold over 11 million books worldwide and has won numerous prizes including the Blue Peter Book Award, the Hay Festival Medal for Fiction, and Philosophy Now Magazine’s Award for Contributions in the Fight Against Stupidity.
Cressida believes that creativity is not a soft skill. It is something that children have innately but it needs to be encouraged. And the creative industries have a vital role to play. In this complex world with its political, scientific and environmental challenges, children need equality of access to creative content as well as the time and tools to develop their own creativity. In this very special keynote, Cressida will encourage us to encourage them, ALL of them.
The Creative Keynote includes a presentation by Changemaker, Comedian Aaron Simmonds
