The way media is consumed has been in a state of flux from the moment the masses adopted digital technology. And just as things look like they are settling a new innovation stirs it all up again.
For media owners, fifteen years ago their kids’ brands would be competing for eyeballs against magazines, DVDs, games consoles and other kids’ brands. If anyone had looked in a crystal ball would they have foreseen the competition to be free video platforms (YouTube), social (Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram) and digital players with huge content budgets (Netflix and Amazon). The smartphone and then the tablet brings two new screens into most households; forever changing the way media is consumed, not only in terms of convenience but also engagement.
In the session we will:
- Review how media consumption has changed in the last 5 years
- How consumption will have evolved by the end of the decade
- Motivations for young audiences to find and consume content across devices and services
Our speakers will explain what this means in terms of developing a content offer for a dedicated kids’ app, and content considerations for a media owner with a business grounded on linear free-to-air channels.
