Sarah Thane’s career was in broadcasting regulation, including serving as Director of Programmes and Advertising at the ITC and as Advisor, Content and Standards, at Ofcom. As an independent consultant she has worked, among others, for the BBC Governors and the Trust.
She is currently a Board Member of the National Lottery Commission which regulates the National Lottery operator, Camelot, and a Member of the Board of Governors of Teachers TV.
In March 2010 her Review into the system of regulating child performances commissioned by Ed Balls and Ben Bradshaw was published.
She is a Fellow of the Royal Television Society and was its Chairman from May 2000 – June 2002. She was awarded the CBE in 2003 and an honorary doctorate by Birmingham City University in February 2010.
She lives in Suffolk where she also sits as a Magistrate.
