Paul Gravett, Director – Comica Festival & Escape Books

Nicknamed ‘The Man at the Crossroads’, Paul Gravett is one of the world’s leading authorities on comics culture. Since 2003 he has been the co-director of Comica, London’s premier international comics festival. He is the author of several books on comics, including ‘Manga: Sixty Years of Japanese Comics’ (2004), ‘Graphic Novels: Stories to Change Your Life’ (2005) and ‘Great British Comics’ (2006), and editor and co-author of ‘1001 Comics You Must Read Before You Die’ (2011). He is also a curator of several exhibitions of comics art, including retrospectives of the work of Jack Kirby, Tove Jansson and Posy Simmonds. He contributes to the Independent, the Times Literary Supplement, Dazed & Confused, ArtReview, European Comic Art, Studies in Comics and Comic Heroes, among others. His next book, ‘Comics Art’, will be published by Tate Publishing in November, and he is currently co-curating the first major exhibition about British comics for The British Library in summer 2014.
