Producer and Co-Founder
Michael Rose runs independent production company Magic Light Pictures together with fellow producer Martin Pope.
Recent feature films include Wild Target, a comedy with Bill Nighy, Emily Blunt, Rupert Grint, Martin Freeman and Rupert Everett; Stephen Poliakoff’s Glorious 39 with Bill Nighy, Romola Garai, Bill Nighy and Julie Christie; and Chico & Rita, an animated love story set to Cuban jazz from Academy Award winner Fernando Trueba and star designer Javier Mariscal
In 2009 the company produced The Gruffalo, a half hour animation special based on the best selling book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. The film premiered on BBC1 on Christmas Day. A second half hour based on The Gruffalo’s Child is in production for Xmas 2011. The company also manages Gruffalo’s international merchandising and distribution programme.
Prior to forming Magic Light in 2003, Michael headed up Aardman’s feature film division. He was Executive Producer of hit animated features Chicken Run and the Oscar winning Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Wererabbit. He was joint producer of Nick Park’s Oscar winning Wallace & Gromit short A Close Shave, and has produced two other Oscar nominated shorts and won two BAFTAS.
