Policy and Communications Manager
Maithreyi is the Policy and Communications Manager at Childnet, a charity set up in 1995 to help make the internet a great and safe place for children. She is responsible for policy, communications and research at Childnet, working to ensure children and young people’s voices are heard at all levels of decision-making. Supporting the activities of the UK Safer Internet Centre, she also helps coordinate the Safer Internet Day campaign in the UK.
Maithreyi also leads on Project deSHAME, an EU-funded project aiming to tackle peer-based online sexual harassment by increasing reporting among young people and improving multi-sector cooperation in preventing and responding to this behaviour.
Resetting the Moral Compass
In light of the White Paper on “online harms” are we finally resetting the dials on the internet to make it truly friendly for children and families. With online platforms more and more under scrutiny, activists for digital rights consider the effectiveness of the White Paper and the public support for change.
