David Wood OBE
David Wood OBE known as “the national children’s dramatist” first picked up his writing pen in 1967. Since he has written over 75 children’s plays which have toured around the world, won numerous awards and filled many families with joy. Coupled with this he has had a career both on and off screen – including writing the first Channel 4 Children’s Show and being a regular on Play Away, amongst others.
David was presented with the JM Barrie Award, a children’s lifetime achievement award in 2017. In 2004, he was presented by Her Majesty The Queen with an OBE for services to literature and drama.
David continues to write 55 years later with his most recent work, an adaptation of Floella Benjamins ‘Coming to England’, premiering at the Birmingham Rep earlier this year.
