Dan gets to spend lots of time doing fun things like making games, forming playful communities, and messing around in the murky bits between storytelling and interactivity. He is especially passionate about inspiring kids to be content creators with projects such as ‘BBC’s Make It: Technobabble’, ‘Shaun’s Game Academy’ and the ‘Tate Movie Project’.
He’s particularly interested in creative programming and the future of human/computer interaction and its effect on society. He likes philosophy, and if he wasn’t so busy would love to work out the meaning of life.

As creativity is increasingly squeezed out of formal education how can children’s media inspire and enable children to express themselves and learn through making and sharing? Kids are claiming back their education. They’re nurturing their own passions, finding their own spaces, making their own choices, publishing for themselves and looking to their peer groups for recognition. With all this going on, seemingly unbounded from any formal educational processes, what’s the place for the producers and broadcasters of children’s media within this landscape?
