Digital Learning Delivery
Ray is an experienced digital technology professional of 30 years. Ray has led a diverse career that has had a significant impact on digital technology in the arts, games industry, and now the education space. Having originally trained as an Avionics engineer at British Airways, Ray first applied his engineering and electronics skills to his love of film and theatre, forming Fast Forward Video Productions running the ground breaking Video installations on the West End musical “Chess” in the mid 80’s – one of the first theatre productions to incorporate multimedia into a stage show using video walls.
Ray then entered the burgeoning Games industry at Virgin Mastertronic, and with the formation of SEGA UK, helped introduce the Mega Drive and the world of Sonic the Hedgehog to UK gamers. Ray joined Sony Electronic Publishing Limited in 1993 as Director of Sales for Europe. Sony Computer Entertainment was formed in 1994, and Ray subsequently became Managing Director of SCE(UK) to manage the launch of PlayStation. Ultimately, as Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Ray oversaw the sales and marketing activities for UK, Ireland, Nordic and Benelux.
During the 18 years of running the PlayStation business through the launches of PS2 and PS3 and countless groundbreaking games, Ray instigated many Education outreach programs, and it was this that prompted him to be a founding partner in Digital Learning Delivery. DLD strives to de-mystify the use of video in schools with it’s cloud based SchoolVID platform.
Ray has served/serves on the following committees: BAFTA Games Committee – 2006 to present, (as Chair and Trustee 2008 – 2012); Power To The Pixel advisory board – 2010 to present; CMC advisory board – Joined 2016
Mind The Gap
In considering the 'gap' between mindful, calm behaviours amongst children and their rapid-fire media consumption, the panel will look at how young people’s lives have altered with rapid technological change and debate just how effective mindfulness and other ‘slow-down’ methods might be to children’s wellbeing while also considering the challenges to mindfulness put forward by some opponents. Do we just need to ‘get with the times’ or should we chill out – and how does media consumption reflect that? Using a research perspective, the panel will consider whether programme content, pace and style of production needs to accommodate or provide…
