Mission Employable: Presenting Popular Shows in BSL

Read VoD preview

The creators of Dare Master and Mission Employable talk about why they chose a charismatic, daring teenager (who happens to be deaf) as their presenter. Going that extra mile at the start of your show to build a diverse, mixed-ability team pays dividends in the long run.

The business case: you’ll find talent with fantastic abilities that you may otherwise never have discovered. The moral imperative: You’ll give people who may otherwise have always remained under the radar the chance to shine. Danny communicated to the CITV audience in his first language, British Sign Language. The voice-over allows ‘mainstream’ hearing children to follow the adventures as well as their signing peers. The shows bring BSL into the mainstream, normalising this different form of communication for the children.
