Equal Measures: The 50:50 Story

Read VoD preview

As an industry we need to ensure that what our audiences see, hear and read reflects our world. For creators of children’s content, featuring diverse and inclusive stories and characters is essential. That is the mission of the 50:50 Project – to ensure that under-represented voices, young and old, are heard.

Started by one TV News presenter who wanted to see how they could increase female representation in their programme, the 50:50 Project now includes thousands of BBC content-makers across 600 teams, and more than 65 partner organisations, who are implementing 50:50 to improve the diversity of their output.

This session explores how monitoring a programme’s contributors can create real cultural change, how the 50:50 methodology works and is being implemented, and how audiences are noticing the difference, resulting in more BBC online content being consumed.
