Are we really going to read in the metaverse? Or do we need to bring the metaverse to books? Publishers have been slow to adopt digital. The publishing industry runs on paper. Ebook growth has stalled, and while audiobooks are growing, paper still drives 75% of publishing revenue. Tech companies have a blind spot for physical books.
There’s no bridge between digital and print. Yet studies show comprehension is higher and retention greater when reading physical books. What’s the role of books in the digital eco system? Are digital/physical hybrids a better way to bridge between story, play, learning and literacy? What about the future of comics on the page and online?
