Research 1 and 2 focused on the content strategies being used by online video organisations and tech-giants to get into the children’s side of the growing online video sector. Takeaway: ● Netflix is looking for content for 7 to 9-year- olds, whilst Amazon is looking more for pre-school content. ● YouTube is the dominant content provider, with Netflix following behind. ● Only 10% of children go to live TV sources first, versus 41% of adults. CMC 2019: Report – Clicks and Mortar: The New Retail Space

This panel discussed the way in which merchandising, the retail space and the licensing industry is adapting to the digital disruption it's facing.  With a seismic shift in the retail environment as 60% of purchases are now online - which has grown from 20% in 2017 - how are brand owners today creating new consumer product stories by developing their own direct-to-consumer platforms for the paying audience? Takeaway: We need to look at consumers (millennial parents) and where they want to shop. CMC 2019: Report – Pushing the Preschool Envelope

With a panel of industry figures from across the kids' media business, this session discussed the challenges of finding and moreover holding a preschool audience, in the midst of an ever more fragmented landscape. Takeaway: Diversity is the key to building a global brand. Be genuine - don't be 'tokenistic'. Let the audience take the lead and don't be afraid to be where they are. Detail: With a universal audience, there is a need to tell relatable, authentic and skilfully told stories in order to teach children about emotional intelligence, human values, knowledge of the world, cognition and sense of identity. CMC 2018: Report – Distribution – What’s Next?

The lively panel was comprised of Josh Scherba, DHX Media - a super producer/distributor/broadcaster behind online streaming service Wildbrain, Dominic Gardiner, Jetpack Distribution - a service-focused boutique distributor,  Colin Williams, Sixteen South - a large animation studio with ambitions to have their shows seen by every child in every home in every country and Nigel Pickard, TRX - a trading platform for programme buyers and sellers. Nigel advises “think eBay but more sophisticated”. Takeaway: Kids distribution has always been tough. Distribution is a thing of the future, not the past.
