Before the PSB reps began we heard from Ruda Santos, the young Changemaker who discussed storytelling, why we do it and what young storytellers can bring to the table. We then began what was almost a shopping list from the broadcasters. Takeaway: The Young Audience Content fund has opened broadcasters up to take chances with content that they previously wouldn’t have risked. This session aims to demystify the Public Service Broadcasting Commissioner’s process. Takeaway: • Commissioners are optimistic about the coming year, as there is such a variety of great kids’ content. • Research is key when pitching to commissioners. Detail: Alison Bakunowich, SVP and General Manager of Nickelodeon UK and Ireland, NEE and Milkshake was first to speak, commenting on the enthusiasm for new writers across the channels that she manages. Nico Franks of C21 Media, introduced executives from the digital children’s channels Nickelodeon, Baby TV, Disney and Turner. Takeaway: Nickelodeon says: "Approach a pitch as a partnership, not as a boss/employee relationship." Baby TV addresses parents first. Disney is open to pitches from every talented individual.
