CMC Animation Exchange: 4 April

Tickets are almost sold out for the CMC Animation Exchange at the Bis Conference Centre, Westminster, London on April 4th 2013 so don’t delay in booking up. We’re a Challenger

The CMC has won the status of "UKTI Trade Challenge Partner". That means we are assisting UK Trade and Investment reach small and medium-sized enterprises to help them develop their export potential. It's part of a new government emphasis on assisting SME's and expanding export growth. The Children's Media Conference is also now listed as a "core event" in the UKTI calendar of trade fairs and industry-focused gatherings.  So kids' content is on the radar as an industry sector to be encouraged. Which means better potential support for the UK mission to Kidscreen, inward delegations of foreign guests to the CMC International Exchange in July, and grants to SME's to help them reach new markets - all of which we'll keep you in…

Be Prepared…

The CMC/Creative Garden Preparing for Market seminar last week went down a storm. Over 50 people crammed into Gateley’s beautiful conference room overlooking St Paul’s Cathedral in Paternoster Square. A Little Light Relief…

An explanation of what's known so far about the new Animation Tax Relief. This is a guest article by CMC regular, Tony Collingwood, who is a member of the PACT Children's Committee. The tax relief has been pegged at 25% of the admissible UK core spend. In order to understand how much of your actual budget is going to be covered by this tax relief it is important to dig a little deeper into the detail.The proposed Animation Tax Relief was confirmed by George Osborne in his Autumn Statement. The CMC International Exchange

This year the CMC welcomed delegations from China and Malaysia, accompanied by a group of UKTI advisors from just about every corner of the globe – this was the International Exchange. Prior to arriving in Sheffield, the group visited London - where they were hosted at the Mind Candy Offices in Shoreditch by Michael Acton Smith and team, and then Salford, for a tour of BBC Children's and Media City and a showcase of Northwest talent at Salford University. Thanks to all those organisations who helped us build bridges in this way. On arrival at CMC, the Exchange were welcomed by Creative Sheffield and international legal firm DLA Piper who hosted a dinner (now we know Sheffield’s best Chinese restaurant!)…

OK – who spotted it? In the last newsletter we said that the dates for the Children’s Media Conference this year were in February. That might stretch even our organisational powers. The real dates are of course 4th – 6th July 2012 and we’ll be back in Sheffield with more venues, more space and more content than ever.
