Preview – Animation that Sustains
Perspective on Animation and Sustainability is part of the “Animation for Good” strand of content at CMC 2022. Video producer Megan Bryant gave CMC Blogger Amy Rich the low-down.
When it comes to recycling and reusing, kids are majorly clued-up. After all, when there’s a kid around, a loo roll inner rarely makes it straight into the bin without being turned into something else first. But what about the adults who are responsible for creating their favourite content on-screen? Are they as savvy and green as the people they create content for?
In this session, we take a look at the importance of sustainability on-screen and off-screen, and discover ways to make your animation production as sustainable as possible. Lucy Murphy, Director of Kids Content at Sky, brings the perspective of the broadcaster, and offers insights for production companies who are looking to pitch content. While Genevieve Margrett, albert Communications Manager at BAFTA, discusses the importance of getting started early when it comes to thinking about sustainability in animation.
Then it’s over to the production companies to hear their side of the story. Gráinne McGuinness, Creative Director at Paper Owl Films discusses her first-hand experience of what it’s like for a small production company to use albert, while Tom Sanders, Founder and Company Director at Tinmouse, describes how production companies and freelancers can all do their part in reducing their carbon footprint. He will also introduce us to his company’s initiative, The Good Hour… which I’m hoping might be some time in the day where everyone gets to pretend they’re Tom or Barbara from ‘The Good Life’ and plant radish seeds.. But it might not be, so it’s best to watch Perspective on Animation and Sustainability and find out what it is!
Whether you’re gearing up to make your first animation, or you’re an old stalwart of the industry, this session is a must-watch to help you understand what you can do to give your production serious green credentials.
