Preview – Focus On… Focus On

Focus on…is the CMC strand of business content. It features territories and (this year) platforms, and provides insights into sales, deal making, and initiatives and advantages.  Sarah Baynes is the Executive Producer of the strand of 4 videos.

We have all been on our own rollercoasters recently and the industry as a whole has been on a tumultuous journey. With Broadcasters and Platforms shifting and changing, and YAC funds evaporating, navigating the new world order to get our work in front of kids is like a Kaleidoscope, colourful, engaging, magical and changing. The big BUT is that while it looks great, how do we do it? Our Focus on sessions are here to give you that glimpse into other worlds, ones that have opportunities, ones that are making headway and are keen to work internationally.

We dig into what those opportunities are and how that might benefit those of us who are keen to explore new avenues. This time we have chosen four varied topics, with a Focus on… China; Italy; the US and SVOD.

We have major players who look at case studies of stories that travel internationally and how working on a global scale has benefited all concerned.

 

China:

Chenfei Zhu, producer for iQIYI original animation series Deer Squad –  a co-production between Nickelodeon and iQIYI.com.
Qing Fan, producer for the international business at Tencent Video Kids Channel, including content investment, co-production and distribution.
Olivia Fang, Senior Manager, LEGO Entertainment Partners & Content, will share the LEGO Group’s phenomenal ‘Monkie Kid’, inspired by the legendary ‘Monkey King and the Journey to the West’,

and Alicia Liu, MD Singing Grass, who gives us her insights into the market.

 

Italy:

We look at the evolution of the animation industry over the past few years and how the Italian Government is putting resources into building on the craftsmanship but providing a route into Europe by supporting the industry financially and offering incentives to projects made in Italy.

 

USA:

We offer a range of people with deep insights that you might not get to hear in a meeting; Michael Wakelam of Anthem Studios speaks to Eryk Casemiro from Nickelodeon, Nancy Kanter who has spent many years at Disney and now Exec produces projects for Netflix, and Linda Simensky, who after many years at PBS, is now in new pastures at Dualingo. They give us the inside scoop on how the US landscape looks in the new digital and post covid era.

 

Which brings us nicely to Focus on SVOD with Dom Gardiner, CEO at Jetpack and Billy Macqueen (Co-Director at Darrall Macqueen) who tell tales of deals and trends in the streamer world.

 

Lots to reflect on, lots to learn and most importantly just what’s needed to get focused on new ways to get your projects away!
