Preview – SkillBuilder: Pitch Yourself Perfect!
Justine Bannister – Producing and Facilitating the CMC SkillBuilder – on why it’s the perfect opportunity to enhance your skills AND make vital new connections…
Because of the unique circumstances we all find ourselves in, CMC has decided – as part of its mission to keep the kids’ community connected and informed – to make SkillBuilder available as a separate ticket from the main conference in 2020. It’s fantastic value for money, at just £30+VAT for 90 minutes of expert guidance and the chance to meet some of the best known names in the business of kids’ media.
CMC SkillBuilder aims to help you build, develop and refresh your pitching skills with a mix of advice and hands-on learning. I’ll soon be uploading a video with all the instructions participants need to make the most of the workshop. So you can come prepped to pitch your own project and receive personalised tips from industry experts on developing your technique, your project and its pitching materials.
The workshop will start as a Zoom video conference and quickly break down into ‘round table’ sessions in private “rooms”, in which small groups will be able to meet pairs of experts from our amazing list of 20 top industry figures. They’ll take your pitch to the next level while you enjoy a unique opportunity to network with industry folk in an intimate and privileged setting. There are commissioners, network and VoD platform executives, senior writers, producers and distributors on the SkillBuilder expert panel. This will be invaluable personal feedback from those who know the recipe for success.
But don’t just take my word for it! One of our experts in 2019 and again this year, Natalie Llewelyn from Jellyfish Pictures told us, “The Skillbuilder Workshop is a great opportunity for content creators to get in front of industry heads from broadcast, production and licensing, and hear their top tips on the do’s and don’ts of pitching and the best practice for building a brand bible. If you’ve a great idea and a killer pitch, you might even fast-track your project!”
SkillBuilder brings delegates close to expertise at the heart of the international children’s entertainment business and previous editions have had a terrific success rate – for example, at last year’s Skillbuilder, Channel 5 Milkshake! met creatives from a production company they had not met before and, although they cannot yet release the details, the follow-up pitch led to a show being commissioned.
This special standalone workshop takes place online on Monday 6 July at 2-3.30pm BST and costs £30+VAT. For SkillBuilder to work at its best the number of places has to be limited – and they are going fast. Don’t miss your chance – sign up today and start your CMC experience with an invaluable afternoon of SkillBuilding!
