At the ‘Cultivating Community’ session, we will be taking an in-depth look at how content creators and brands maintain and extend their relationship with their audience online and what that brings in terms of fan engagement, new content potential and brand loyalty.
Hosting the session is Joshua Davidson, creator of ‘Night Zookeeper’ (SKY Kids), which, before launch, invited children from across the UK to submit character drawings and background designs, as well as suggestions for plot points, dialogue and songs.

We will delve into case studies and hear from a cross section of expert speakers! On our panel we have: Dan Berlinka – writer, producer and director of all four series of the BAFTA-winning interactive drama ‘Dixi‘ (Kindle Entertainment/CBBC), Naomi Dare – Head of Digital at Coolabi Group, Alison Norrington – CEO of Storycentral, Dan Thorne – Social Media Manager at Guinness World Records and Lucy Appleby – Marketing Manager at the Roald Dahl Story Company.

The session is truly pan-media and we will look at a cross section of content from TV shows to book franchises. Naomi Dare from Coolabi Group will take us through her experience of working with ‘Warrior Cats’. The first Warrior Cats books were published more than 15 years ago and since then a passionate, global community of fans has grown organically, creating a range of exciting opportunities. Naomi will be talking through how Coolabi approach the ‘cultivation’ of this community, who often have high expectations, and how they invite them to help shape future books, digital content and physical product. Dan from Guinness World Records will be talking about how they choose content that inspires conversation and excitement about the world for users on emerging social platforms with younger demographics.
To round up, Joshua will be on hand to quiz our experts on those all-important questions like are there any dangers on co-creating with fans? How do you take risks with a well-known IP? Can audiences turn against those custodians that do something they don’t see as in keeping with the brand? How do you take risks and really push the boundaries? Finally, there will be an opportunity for the audience to ask anything we haven’t thought of.
