As the UK Youth Media Representative at the “World Summit for Media on Children and Youth” in Karlstad 2010, I soon discovered a passion for the promotion of youth led media, and now strongly believe that not only is this the future of children’s media, but also the best and most exciting way forward. Over the past year, I have been working initiatives with the Royal Commonwealth Society, BAFTA and the British Council to help support and encourage young people’s active participation in both planning and creating media content. Graduating in Journalism at Cardiff University, my hope is to inspire a greater representation and presentation of young people in the printed press. For this reason, the workshops and sessions at this year’s conference such as “Shape It Pitch It” and “The Amazing World of Gumball” presented by BAFTA really excite me, with their aim of generating fresh and stimulating ideas and providing an insight into the creative processes of the future generation of children’s media.
